Day 6 - just south of Katherine (Warloch Rest Area)

We just pulled out of Elliot. Mum went to the shop at the petrol station, and can you believe what she saw!?! They had a break rack, and on the bottom shelf they had a couple of packets of crumpets. Crumpets, as you know, go off very fast, and Mum didn't think they looked particularly fresh. She bent down to look at the packaging, and saw that the packing date was 4 February 2010!
Now that's off!
Just past Elliot, we came across a four carriage road train that had stopped COMPLETELY across the road - and I mean completely! Two carriages on the left, one across the road, and one and the engine on the right. Mum talked to a guy with blood on his face- he was driving with someone who looks like his son, then fell asleep at the wheel (mum and dad assume the truck was behind him and tried to brake…)
The guy's car got completely smashed up. The windscreen is all broken, both sides are bent, the whole car just looks like an expensive piece of scrap metal now! The guy said he was saved by the air bag. Mum and dad think it was lucky he was saved at all. From the amount of burnt rubber pieces and glass strewn across 50m of road, they think he probably rolled over and over a lot.
(Man, this day is eventful!)
We're staying tonight at a place called Warloch Rest Area. There are a few other caravans and a Winnebago here as well. Oh, and there are two eco toilets that stink to high heaven (or 'stink like crazy', as Dini put it!) and have no toilet paper. And we happen to be parked right next to them… Ugh!
Dini and I had washup duty tonight. The itchy bugs combined with the lack of enthusiasm and the exhaustion of the day's driving to make it a thoroughly excruciating experience… :)
Dinner was pumpkin soup, lentils, and peas. Actually really tasty, despite how it sounds… :)
We're off to Katherine Gorge tomorrow. (Finally, a REAL caravan park!! :) )
Anyway, better get off the internet before my laptop battery dies on me… Oh, and it's 10:15 (time is a half hour behind here now!!!).
And, if I needed any more reason to stop, the internet is excruciatingly slow and I am on the verge of chucking my laptop at the wall.
Which, I suppose, would be reason enough all on its own!
